First, the part that surprises people: it is the same visa

If you hold an Indian passport and live in Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, or Bahrain, your Dubai visa is the normal Dubai tourist e-visa, the same one an Indian applies for from Mumbai or Ahmedabad. Same application, same documents, same fees, same processing time. Your Gulf residence card does not change the visa type, and it does not get you a visa on arrival either. Indian passport holders who are GCC residents must have an approved visa before travelling, whether they fly or drive.

Driving in? Swap flight tickets for one car document

A normal application includes flight tickets as proof of travel. If you are driving into the UAE, you do not have flight tickets, and you do not need them. In their place, you submit ANY ONE of these car documents:

One of the two is enough. Everything else in the application stays exactly the same as a normal Indian applicant.

No OTB when you are not flying from India

OTB (Ok to Board) is an airline formality required only when flying to the UAE from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, or Sri Lanka on a visa copy or e-visa. If you are entering the UAE from a Gulf country, whether by road or on a flight departing a Gulf city, no OTB is needed, even if your passport carries an ECR stamp. The border mistake that creates a false overstay

This is the single most important thing on this page, and we tell it to every client who drives. At an airport, your entry and exit are recorded automatically. At a road border crossing, an officer records them, and sometimes the exit does not get recorded.

The fix costs you thirty seconds at the border: when entering AND when leaving, confirm with the immigration officer that your passport has been recorded in the system, both times. Ask directly. Do not assume it happened because you were waved through. This one habit protects your entire UAE travel history.

Frequently asked questions

I live in Qatar on a work visa. Can I get a Dubai visa on arrival at the border?

No. An Indian passport holder living in a Gulf country needs a pre-approved Dubai e-visa before travelling, by road or by air. Your Gulf residence card by itself does not grant entry to the UAE.

I am driving, so I have no flight tickets. What do I submit instead?

Any one of: your car registration (mulkiya) or your vehicle border-exit permit. One document is enough. The rest of the application is the same as a normal Indian applicant.

Do I need OTB if I fly to Dubai from Doha or Muscat?

No. OTB applies only when flying from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, or Sri Lanka. Departing from a Gulf city, no OTB is needed, even on an ECR passport.

What happens if the border officer forgets to record my exit?

The UAE system shows you as still in the country, your permitted stay keeps counting down, and you accumulate overstay fines on paper even though you left. That record then blocks or complicates future visas. Always confirm both your entry and exit are recorded before you drive on.

Can my family in the car apply the same way?
