Dubai Visa Status Check - Free Official ICP Portal Guide

There's an Official UAE Government Tool for This, and It's Free

No agent needed, no charges, no login. Most applicants simply don't know it exists.

After applying for a Dubai visa, the wait begins, and with it the anxiety. Did it go through? Is it stuck? Is it approved? Many travellers end up paying random "visa status check" websites or messaging their agent every few hours. Neither is necessary. UAE's Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP) runs an official, free portal where you can check your visa and file status yourself, directly from the government's own records.

How to Check Your Dubai Visa Status on the ICP Portal

Step 1: Open the official ICP Smart Services portal: smartservices.icp.gov.ae → File Validity

Step 2: Under "Search By" choose Passport Information, and under "Select the Type" choose Visa. (If you're checking an old residence file instead, choose Residency.)

Step 3: Enter your Passport Number, Passport Expiry Date, and select your Nationality, exactly as printed on your passport.

Step 4: Complete the quick verification tick, then click Search. The portal shows your file status directly from UAE immigration records, including validity dates.

The Second Use Nobody Talks About: Checking Your UAE History

This portal has a second, quieter use that matters even more than status tracking. Before you apply for a new Dubai visa, it can show you whether an old UAE file is still sitting open against your passport. Why does that matter? Because one of the most common Dubai visa rejection reasons is a previous UAE residence or work visa that was never formally cancelled. The applicant considers that chapter closed; UAE Immigration's system doesn't. A quick check here, before paying a non-refundable visa fee, can save you a rejection.

One honest note about the portal's limits: in our experience it does not always display very old files, and residence files sometimes don't appear either. So a blank result is not a guarantee of a clean slate. If you've ever held a UAE residence or work visa, or overstayed on a past visit, tell us before applying, even if the portal shows nothing. We'd rather check twice than have you lose a non-refundable fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the ICP visa status check free?

Yes, completely free. It's the UAE government's official portal. Be careful of third-party websites that charge money for the same check.

What do I need to check my visa status?

Just your passport number, passport expiry date, and nationality. No login or registration required. (For residence file checks by file number, the portal asks for date of birth instead of expiry date.)

The portal shows nothing for me. Does that mean my record is clean?

Not necessarily. Very old files and some residence files don't always appear. If you've held any UAE visa before, mention it to your agent before applying regardless of what the portal shows.

My visa is taking longer than expected. What should I do?

First check the portal. If the status is unclear or stuck, contact whoever filed your application with your application number. If you applied through us, WhatsApp us the number and we'll chase it the same day.
