30 vs 60 Day Dubai Visa, Which One Should You Choose?

The Real Question Isn't Which Is Cheaper Today

It's whether you might stay longer, because extending later costs far more than most people expect

Most guides simply say "30 days for short trips, 60 days for long trips" and stop there. That's true, but it misses what actually saves or costs you money. Here is the honest comparison, including what extension really costs (not the number you see on random websites) and what happens if you overstay.

Visa Type Stay Duration Normal Price Express Price
30 Day Single Entry 30 days from UAE entry Rs.8,500 Rs.13,500
60 Day Single Entry 60 days from UAE entry Rs.17,500 Rs.20,500
30 Day Multiple Entry 30 days, clock starts at first entry only Rs.17,000 On request
60 Day Multiple Entry 60 days, clock starts at first entry only Rs.25,000 On request

What Extension Actually Costs

Visit visas can often be extended from inside the UAE in 30-day blocks. But here is the real number, all-inclusive of sponsor fee and GST: approximately Rs.25,000 (around AED 950) per 30-day extension. Not the bare government fee you may see quoted elsewhere, the actual final amount you pay.

Extension is also not automatic. Eligibility is checked per file on the UAE immigration website, and some files simply do not show the extension option. In certain cases more than two 30-day extensions are possible, but this is decided file by file, never guaranteed.

Do the math: 30-day visa (Rs.8,500) + one extension (Rs.25,000) = Rs.33,500. A 60-day visa upfront is Rs.17,500. If there is any real chance your stay crosses 30 days, the 60-day visa is not just safer, it is nearly half the cost.

Overstay Is Not A Small Fine, Take This Seriously

UAE immigration allows a grace period of only 2 to 3 days after visa expiry. Beyond that, the case moves to absconding status, with penalties of AED 3,500 to 4,500 (roughly Rs.92,000 to Rs.1,18,000) depending on the sponsoring company, and a permanent immigration blacklist that blocks all future UAE entry until the fine is fully settled through the sponsor.

This is exactly why choosing the right duration upfront matters. A few thousand rupees saved on a 30-day visa is meaningless against these numbers. We are preparing a detailed guide on overstay and blacklist recovery, until then, ask us directly if this affects you.

Choose 30 Days If

Your travel dates are fixed and confirmed, return ticket already booked

You're combining Dubai with other countries and won't be in the UAE the full time

It's a short business trip, event, or family visit with a clear end date

Choose 60 Days If

Your return date isn't fully locked, or there's a real chance it shifts

You're visiting family and staying flexible on how long

You want the buffer built in from day one, no extension paperwork, no per-file eligibility gamble

Planning To Look For Work In The UAE? Read This First

Some travellers take a tourist visa intending to convert it after finding a job. We'll be straight with you: we do not encourage converting a tourist visa. The right tool exists, a dedicated job search visa, which legally permits exactly this, without the overstay pressure a tourist visa creates when job hunting takes longer than planned.

If a longer flexible stay is what you need, we also offer 60-day non-sponsored visas, a different product with its own advantages. For job search visas and non-sponsored visa options, call our visa desk directly at +91 78748 55444.

Single Entry vs Multiple Entry, Quickly

Single entry visas end automatically the moment you exit the UAE, even with days left. Planning a side trip to Oman or Saudi and back? Single entry will not let you re-enter.

Multiple entry visas allow free exit and re-entry within the validity window, but the stay clock starts once from your first entry and never resets. Full detail on our validity and stay duration page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I extend a 30-day visa after entering the UAE?

Often yes, in 30-day blocks, but eligibility is checked per file on the immigration website and is not guaranteed. Real all-in cost is approximately Rs.25,000 (around AED 950) per extension including sponsor fee and GST.

Is the 60-day visa cheaper than extending a 30-day one?

Almost always. 30-day visa plus one extension totals around Rs.33,500, while a 60-day visa upfront is Rs.17,500. If you expect any chance of needing more than 30 days, take 60 from the start.

What happens if I overstay?

There is a 2-3 day grace period after expiry. Beyond that, absconding penalties of AED 3,500 to 4,500 apply and a permanent immigration blacklist follows until the fine is settled through the sponsor. Never plan around overstaying.

Can I take a tourist visa and convert it to a work visa after finding a job?

Technically possible in some cases, but we do not encourage it. A dedicated job search visa exists for exactly this purpose and removes the overstay pressure. Call +91 78748 55444 to discuss job search and non-sponsored visa options.

Does JAS help with extensions inside the UAE?
